New Sera Gamble interview, here
Some things under the cut, since they asked not to repost the whole interview.
This:
With half a season as showrunner under her belt, Sera takes the opportunity to explain why she and the other producers decided to give this season a noir feel, why they ran with the soulless Sam story line, what went into reconstructing Sam's character, what’s coming up for the brothers in terms of their relationship, what it’s been like creating the character Death, what’s coming for Castiel, Samuel, monsters and others, why a civil war in Hell is just another day at the office for demons, and how there’s another exotic trip coming in Sam and Dean’s future (with a fun twist of course).
This is the only thing she said about Dean:
Question: WFB: Oh, poor Dean. You’ve shown how capable he can be as a family man (“Two and a Half Men” is particularly swooning) yet the universe still drags him into the horrors of hunting (his confession in “You Can’t Handle The Truth” is particularly heart breaking). On top of that, his own brother hasn’t been there for support and even put him in harms way. Will he continue to carry on as reluctant hero or will he gravitate more toward that fighting spirit and purpose he had in earlier seasons?
SG: I think there’s always been a bit of the reluctant hero in Dean, and there’s also always been a true free spirit in him. It’s part of what makes him such a complex and interesting character—that duality.
She said we'll hear again about Adam.

Just read some of the comments there...looks like that Alice is really not very open to listen to some very well put critics.

Date: 2011-01-25 09:24 pm (UTC)I have no problem with how she is writing Dean. It's consistent.
I am just tired to see him like the punching bag everyone can use when they are upset, tired, angry.
I will stay here, watch the show, enjoy the good and criticize what I don't like. The season is not bad, but I am not excited as Gamble is. She sees the merits, she doesn't see the flaws.
This whole soul idea doesn't work for me. I am willing to see what's coming next, but the spoilers that I have seen so far, are not exciting (every single one).
It's teh first time I feel there's no balance between the characters and if you know me, and you do, you know I have never complain about SPN being the Sam (or the Dean) show. Or about Dean's role.
If I complain now, it's because for me Gamble is lacking in something. I can't exactly say what this something is, but this is how I feel.
I don't want anything, I have blamed the writers for listening to the wrong side of the fandom in the past, so I am not here to tell them what I want, but I think I can say I am not satisfied with what I am getting and that this season for me it's not as much exciting as Gamble thinks it is.
Just my two cents...always willing to talk to people who have a different point of view :)
But you've got me thinking: if people are really stopping watching SPN, maybe there is a reason behind it and maybe this reason is not shallow or silly, don't you think?

Date: 2011-01-25 09:45 pm (UTC)Sorry, I was a little pissed at some of her responses.... And I didn't mean to take it out here.
So far the silent majority is pretty happy, sure the soul thing didn't work out for everyone, me I loved it. Cause I think it's the first time a human was walking around with no soul. My only complaint is Sam tried to act too much like Dean in season 1 and that I didn't like...
I am excited for the second half of the season...Yes, there could have been better questions, however; Sera isn't going to release any spoilers.
Again I am sorry, I didn't mean to take it out here...

Date: 2011-01-25 10:03 pm (UTC)The Soul thing was a good idea but imo the charcerization or probably how Jared played it didn't work for me. Probably he just did what he was asked to, but dunno...it's about a feeling, you know?
I am happy the majority liked it, for the SPN sake, I am not ready to let the show go and I still have hopes the season will give that pathos I haven't felt so far.
You will probably read posts where I squee and complain at the same time :)))
Don't be sorry April, you are at home here, you can be honest :)))
*hugs tight*
