New Sera Gamble interview, here
Some things under the cut, since they asked not to repost the whole interview.
This:
With half a season as showrunner under her belt, Sera takes the opportunity to explain why she and the other producers decided to give this season a noir feel, why they ran with the soulless Sam story line, what went into reconstructing Sam's character, what’s coming up for the brothers in terms of their relationship, what it’s been like creating the character Death, what’s coming for Castiel, Samuel, monsters and others, why a civil war in Hell is just another day at the office for demons, and how there’s another exotic trip coming in Sam and Dean’s future (with a fun twist of course).
This is the only thing she said about Dean:
Question: WFB: Oh, poor Dean. You’ve shown how capable he can be as a family man (“Two and a Half Men” is particularly swooning) yet the universe still drags him into the horrors of hunting (his confession in “You Can’t Handle The Truth” is particularly heart breaking). On top of that, his own brother hasn’t been there for support and even put him in harms way. Will he continue to carry on as reluctant hero or will he gravitate more toward that fighting spirit and purpose he had in earlier seasons?
SG: I think there’s always been a bit of the reluctant hero in Dean, and there’s also always been a true free spirit in him. It’s part of what makes him such a complex and interesting character—that duality.
She said we'll hear again about Adam.

Just read some of the comments there...looks like that Alice is really not very open to listen to some very well put critics.

Date: 2011-01-25 09:01 pm (UTC)So, yeah, no surprise there's no interest in Dean. Then again, Sera Gamble never really talks about Dean either unless she's directly forced into it.
p.s. Adam
Date: 2011-01-25 09:16 pm (UTC)Re: p.s. Adam
Date: 2011-01-25 09:28 pm (UTC)I mean, never been fond of the idea but since he was in the pit too, well, would have been nice to spend some words on him as well.

Date: 2011-01-25 09:25 pm (UTC)You know, the point was that there was not Sam neither there. Anyway I just think I have to wait and see.

Date: 2011-01-25 09:09 pm (UTC)And honestly many Dean fans are calling out to their half of the fandom by saying watch Fringe live, until we get what we want. Basically threatening SPN's existence...

Date: 2011-01-25 09:24 pm (UTC)I have no problem with how she is writing Dean. It's consistent.
I am just tired to see him like the punching bag everyone can use when they are upset, tired, angry.
I will stay here, watch the show, enjoy the good and criticize what I don't like. The season is not bad, but I am not excited as Gamble is. She sees the merits, she doesn't see the flaws.
This whole soul idea doesn't work for me. I am willing to see what's coming next, but the spoilers that I have seen so far, are not exciting (every single one).
It's teh first time I feel there's no balance between the characters and if you know me, and you do, you know I have never complain about SPN being the Sam (or the Dean) show. Or about Dean's role.
If I complain now, it's because for me Gamble is lacking in something. I can't exactly say what this something is, but this is how I feel.
I don't want anything, I have blamed the writers for listening to the wrong side of the fandom in the past, so I am not here to tell them what I want, but I think I can say I am not satisfied with what I am getting and that this season for me it's not as much exciting as Gamble thinks it is.
Just my two cents...always willing to talk to people who have a different point of view :)
But you've got me thinking: if people are really stopping watching SPN, maybe there is a reason behind it and maybe this reason is not shallow or silly, don't you think?

Date: 2011-01-25 09:45 pm (UTC)Sorry, I was a little pissed at some of her responses.... And I didn't mean to take it out here.
So far the silent majority is pretty happy, sure the soul thing didn't work out for everyone, me I loved it. Cause I think it's the first time a human was walking around with no soul. My only complaint is Sam tried to act too much like Dean in season 1 and that I didn't like...
I am excited for the second half of the season...Yes, there could have been better questions, however; Sera isn't going to release any spoilers.
Again I am sorry, I didn't mean to take it out here...

Date: 2011-01-25 10:03 pm (UTC)The Soul thing was a good idea but imo the charcerization or probably how Jared played it didn't work for me. Probably he just did what he was asked to, but dunno...it's about a feeling, you know?
I am happy the majority liked it, for the SPN sake, I am not ready to let the show go and I still have hopes the season will give that pathos I haven't felt so far.
You will probably read posts where I squee and complain at the same time :)))
Don't be sorry April, you are at home here, you can be honest :)))

Date: 2011-01-25 09:44 pm (UTC)I don't like Sera's interviews when it comes to Dean cause she says almost the same thing just in a different way every time. He's a complex character, he's a hero. That's it everytime. And they do nothing with him. Sure most things are from his pov in a way, but he is always on the side looking in. He really is basically doing nothing but looking after Sam.
Honestly I liked in a way, Lisa and Ben, but now they are forcing the 'family' down my throat. I don't want Dean being a daddy to Ben on odd eps. I want the Sam and Dean show.
I have no interest in Adam. I am sorry, he's character never made sense from day one and never will. I don't care where he is to be honest.
So as usually, when it comes to Dean Sera says squat. They should have asked about Sam, she would have talked forever LOL
Rant off

Date: 2011-01-25 09:59 pm (UTC)Dean owns me and he will always do that, it's Sam I don't feel anything about anymore. I blame the writers for this.
About Adam: I wasn't fond of him neither but since they put him in the picture and then sacrificed him in the pit, I think it would be fair to know how he is now.
As for Dean, I think he has been really well written in the fisrt half of the season. It was shown that he was the best hunter, the one who knew what to do, the one, the only one who cared about Sam.
I am sad he gave up his family for Sam, but it's what Dean is.
I don't complain about it, but teh season is lacking in something. I feel it.
Exactly like you do.
*hugs*

Date: 2011-01-25 10:43 pm (UTC)And yes they brought Adam in, but they keep listening, I think to a majority of fans, and changing to suit them, and not balancing the stories out to fit that. Adam was that for me a fan thing.
I love the comedy eps, Ben's and they nearly always work so well, but the others this season are too disjointed and the whole season floating on Sam's soul is definitely a mistake to me, but that is most likely to me, not a Samgirl.
I don't want the Dean show, anymore than I want the Sam show. And I really do believe that if it wasn't for Jensen and Jared selling this so well, this show wouldn't even get the ratings it does now. But I am worried now that this 'disillusionment' is going to help Fringe and hurt us.
*hugs*

Date: 2011-01-25 10:51 pm (UTC)I know, Fringe can hurt us but I do hope the fans will stick around, I still think SPN is worth watching even if I am not excited about it as I used to be.
How are you btw?

Date: 2011-01-25 10:29 pm (UTC)I had a long ramble of wordies, but decided it was just me being rambly and opinionated, so I deleted it. I'll just say. I don't see the Dean show or the Sam show. Just SPN. I think/hope the sometimes inconsistent soulless!Sam storyline will pay off by seasons end. I'll be watching.

Date: 2011-01-25 10:44 pm (UTC)But we have the right to say if we like or not like something I think.
I'll be watching too and once the hiatus will be over, I will squee again.
I watch the Dean&Sam show too. Always done.

Date: 2011-01-25 10:50 pm (UTC)I think their decision to go soulless with Sam was interesting and made a kind of sense. I also think Jared has played it very well. I've absolutely loved how he managed to amp up the sexy this season (even with his shirt on, soulless Sam is hothothot). Of course, now that I've feasted my eyes and enjoyed a little bit of fun with him, I'm more than ready for the boys to be brothers again. Dean needs his Sammy back!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Bring on the weird and crazy monsters! Brotherly angst and brotherly schmoop! More Lisa and Ben. Yeah, it could be very cool. :D
Thanks for posting the article, hon! Oh, and the internet card on Sis's laptop is broken so she's not around much these days. I'll make sure she has some online time over the next couple of days.

Date: 2011-01-25 10:57 pm (UTC)Agreed on Adam, he was so used as a plot device and it was unfair not to mention it more.
The idea of soulless Sam for me was good per se, but I didn't like the characterization and how Jared played it. It's maybe the first time that he really disappointed me with his acting...but you know, it's just me. I am ahppy that people could enjoy it.
I am ready for it too, but I want something more for Dean and Sam than jsut being together on the road again. Let's see what happens :)
I was wondering about your sis...I miss her.
*hugs both*

Date: 2011-01-25 11:21 pm (UTC)Whatever happens, you know it'll be different.
Sis misses you too! She's been miserable-sick lately. She caught my horrible cold and now she has pink eye. She just wants to curl up in her bed for days, but of course she can't since being a mom is 24-7. I'm amazed she even gets up in the mornings!
*hugs you back*... and I'll pass your hug to her. She could use one right now.

Date: 2011-01-26 02:10 am (UTC)Yep I read that she was sick. I hope she feels better now.
Double hug again!

LOL! Really? All? Squirm & blush?:)
So yeah, i'll wait patiently for the boys to return because i really missed them but, i know you understand...everything changed
Thanks for sharing this Val, and sorry for the long, slightly pissed off rant:)

Date: 2011-01-25 11:15 pm (UTC)What can i say... sera sounds very passive-agressive there. just like kripke after Shit Song fiasco.
I didn't expect there anything interesting about dean (because of the site and because sera never talks about Dean if she's not asked). But i couldn't not to laugh at her mentioning that everyone there loves the idea of soulless sam theme. Yeah, right when even her own stars weren't happy about it and begged it to stop. She could pretend better, you know.
All in all it think the interview was pointless.
Not to start anything i'll post my other thoughts in my journal.

Date: 2011-01-26 05:58 am (UTC)Honestly, I've reached a stage where I just don't like either brother very much. I think that they could have done so much with both and just didn't. Same goes for Castiel. Bobby's on the fence I think...
I still watch and write about Supernatural BECAUSE I miss the brothers so much. I'm just waiting hoping to have some type of payoff of a sort...
And yeah there will ALWAYS be the fans who don't feel that their AWESOME brother #1 doesn't get all the treatment and screen time that he deserves and whine about it constantly. But hey Supernatural didn't start off with only one brother travelling the US by himself- there were TWO brothers! :)
And I fear that SPN will go the way of SV and just limp off the screen after its 10th or 11th season and honestly while I know a lot of fans want SPN to be always on TV. I want it to end with a bang and leave us satisfied but wanting just a little more...

Date: 2011-01-26 07:47 am (UTC)I never cared. It's the lack of evolution that I don't like.
*hugs*

Date: 2011-01-26 09:06 am (UTC)I'm with you! And I completely agree! I feel like there hasn't been so much evolution with both the brothers, individually and as brothers. It frustrates me so much when they show something of a development on screen in one episode and in the next, things are back to square one :((
