So a lot of Dean fans are worried because they think Castiel pulled Dean out of Hell just to be even more subservient and reliant upon Sam’s.
They think Dean's role hasn't changed a bit and that this storyline is just functional to "Special Sam", as they call him.

What do you think?

I am really surprised of how many Dean fans actually can't stand Sam and viceversa.

I'm not a fan of Jared and I have a lot of issues with Sam.

Basically btw I love the show and I love Dean and Sam, so I wouldn't turn everything in a fight.

Okay I am a total Jensen/Dean fan but quite honestly you can not have one without the other on this show. It's THEM that make it what it is. And for goodness sakes these two guys love eachother like real brothers and would do anything for eachother. They wouldn't find this dean vs sam thing appealing in the least. The sooner fans wake up and get that the better.

Did you watch those vids of 403? Of course you watched :) How about that 'babe' line? Awesome, huh? Jensen was so spot on!!!! As always of course :)

Hee :) I read those comments - too funny :) And don't think it's too many people - actually they're not so many - ti's just that group that like to go from place to place and bashing.
But did you see thoughtful comments there? It was delight to read them - especially from Sam fans who call to ignore all bashings and watch the ep and enjoy the show.
As to Dean's role? I can't decide cos i didn't watch the ep yet. But all reviews were excellent - i feel like believe to those who watch the ep already then just bashing 'kids'.
Just one bit. If your read sides for 407 i suppose - one where Uriel was revealed - there was some phrase towards Sam - that if Sam still will be interfere Uriel will kill him in a minute - so angels (i suppose he's angel too) can kill Sam by themselves they don't need Dean for it. Also before that scene they were talking to 'Mark' about someone who has potential and can succeed. It can be Sam (again) but it also can be Dean, right? For now i don't see any signs of Dean being 'there only for Sam'.

The point is not this episode imo. Dean's life and role is tied up with Sam's one. There is nothing we can do about it. It's like Dean is.

And even if Dean was there only for Sam, I wouldn't see anything wrong in it. They have been chanting this mantra for 4 seasons and I have never agreed :)

Jensen is awesome!! I do like Jared though...he's come such a long way! And yeah, I kinda feel sorry for Dean cuase it just seems he's being used again - but that's the fun of waiting and seeing, lol!!

These guys have kicked so much ass character wise and story wise - and I'm really looking forward to seeing what will happen next!! Just when you think it can't get any better, Kripke proves us wrong! If it comes down to a showdown between the two brothers (and with Sammy's secretss, it just might one way or another) I'll be SO there, glued to the screen!!

I didn't see the episode yet, but I'm not that happy if the only reason is that Dean is the Sam's keeper.
I was ok with it all the pasts season, but this year Kripke and Jensen said Dean will be not there just for keeping Sam safe (or on the good side).
If Sam is the only reason when Dean asked "Why God gives a crap about me, I am just a regular guy?" the answer would be "Oh, don't worry, God doesn't give a crap about you personally, it just happened that Sam is your brother."
I would like that Dean is important because he is Dean, because his soul, not because Sam loves him or because he is his brother.
Plus Dean was trying to help Sam even without the angels tell him that was his mission. So I would really like if Dean job will be stop Lilith.
Even more because Sam has to fight his battle and kill his demons on his own. It's sad but it's work like this. You can love a person with all your heart, but the final decision, choose to fight andbe on the good side will be all on Sam. So or they will give to Dean a big, big role in this and the story will sound a bit fake to me or Dean will be not that important.
I mean if someone has a trouble, like he is alchoolic, he can have the love and the support of his family,if he want to stop drinking, but at the end he is the only one who can save himself.
For me Sam is not different, he the only one who can save himself and he has to choose to be on the good side. It's a Sam battle, not a Dean one. IMHO.

And if this is all what Dean has to do in the storyline, things weren't changed much: before John told Dean to keep Sam safe, now it's God and the angels the ones who said it to Dean; and Dean would have done it anyway, both times.

But maybe after I will see the episode, I would be happy with Dean storyline (I hope so).

I don't agree.

If Dean is Sam's keeper he is important in this role because without him Sam would be lost. I think it's more important to be a regular guy who have a task than be a borderline special kid who risks to make the wrong choice if Dean is not there.

I think this episode will change things from Dean point of view and it will be pivotal for all the season and the mythology. Not only for Sam.

Holy cow do they ever get nasty! I had to stop reading the comments as it was just getting ridiculous!

As for the Dean's role compared to Sam's thing, I really couldn't care less as I enjoy Dean in all his roles, the protector, the victim, the warrior, the saviour, etc, I love them all!

As for the Jared/Jensen bashing, I find it very distasteful. I mean I will freely admit that I am Jensen girl all the way, but that doesn't mean I hate Jared. He has come a bloody long way in his acting ability since the start of the series. He should be proud of how he has grown as an actor. I still don't think he is in the same class as Jensen, but he is far from a bad actor.

I fear that the green eye monster of Jealousy is taking over here. Jensen is finally getting recognition from critics for his acting and the Jared fans are jealous of the attention that he is getting. I understand where it is coming from, but it by NO mean excuses it.

As for them bashing Jensen's acting, it just makes them look like idiots as it is pretty obvious that he is highly regarded by most.

Honestly, I think a lot of this nonsense is Kripke's fault. The show tips between being tilted heavily in Dean's direction in terms of meaty scenes and emotional stuff but on the flip side having Dean completely obsessed with Sam. Which annoys Dean fans who don't like Sam ('Why's he so special anyway??' etc).

I think if he really had started out with 'Two Brothers, One Destiny' as the tagline went it would have been a lot easier to balance the show between them. Instead of 'one guy, one destiny, and his brother who does all the more interesting stuff'.

Sorry, I'm a little down about all of this right now, I've read so much bitching in the past couple of days :/

He is special because he has powers, because he is the boy king. We can like it or not but this is the story Kripke wants to tell us.

Sam is special. Period. This doens't means he is better or more interesting than Dean. He isn't.

It's not a case that the critics and most of the recognition is for Dean, who has been defined one of the best character of the last few years.

So yeah I prefer to have Dean like this than him being special in Sam's way.

I get your point, but I still don't think it's really pivotal for the show to have Dean special too.

Because the strenght Dean has is being special. Without being Sam, without having his powers.

I started reading some of the comments and then had to stop. It was bad enough that there was bashing of the characters, but then came the first bashing of the actors, and it was from 2 Jared/Sam fans bashing Jensen, and then the Jensen/Dean fans responded.

I don't think the author of the article helped the situation, in fact, I think she inflamed it to get more hits on her site. She was trying to be all secretive and coy and teasing, instead of just posting her review.

I think it's going to be really bad on the boards after the episode airs. :(

I confess I couldn't stand Sam in the first half of season 1 because he was an ungrateful and selfish guy. The more he realized that family is the most important and got less and less self-centered and selfish, the more I liked him.

My friend's wife, though, is not fond of him. She wanted to kill him after the 3rd season finale because he didn't save Dean. When my friend told me that I was really amused.

Oh I hated Sam, especially in Asylum and Scarecrow. I was furious at him at ened of BUABS because he didn't address Dean's pain.

Now I love him but I don't agree with what he does, almost never.

I have always thought Sam would have never been able to save Dean but this is because I have my personal unpopular opinion about him. To me he is not so sweet, caring, sensitive as most of the fandom think he is...he is, but not only this. The fact that his sin is the pride is meaningful.
Plus I think Sam would kill everyone to save Dean, I am not sure he would ever sacrifice himself...I'm not blaming him for this. This is how I see his charater and for me it's a challenge to keep discovering and loving him.

Oh well no wank here, just considerations!!!

Wank in fandom again? I must admit I missed it cuz I'm hovering dangerously close to my bandwidth usage cap (sucks to be stuck on wi-fi with a 5 GB limit per month).

But from your post I can guess and comment without reading it.

First off, I'm a Dean Girl but Sam has his moments when he steals me away but I always run back to my love.

I love both the actors and their talent in making this show so gripping. Jensen's powerful performances and the emotion he brings out in Dean just grip me. Jared has made Sam my new Buffy in that whenever he cries, I cry. (Buffy had a knack of making me breakdown into fits of tears when she did)

I think Dean is so much more than just Sam's protector and yet he is still an older sibling that gets the "you need to look after your little brother" speech from Dad. Mind you, my little brother never had this "destiny" to possibly turn evil (yet I think he is the anti-Christ at times) and my father gave me the same speech making me responsible for him for what seems like our entire lives. I think that little tidbit is part real life family - part script from Kripke.

I have issues with Sam as well. I don't like that he didn't tell Dean about the little trip back to his nursery with the YED in AHBL, I don't like he didn't tell him about Mary knowing the YED, I don't like that he didn't tell him about all of Mary's friends dying and if he is doing the new Ruby as suggested by her state of undress in LR, I really don't like that he is doing a woman that is possessed.

After everything Dean has done for him...little turd but I still love him.

Just my opinions and I don't force them down anyone's throat or argue if someone disagrees unlike others in fandom seem to.

Also, I am not a spoilerphobe but I haven't kept up with them since I've got this bandwidth cap but I do have an opinion or just a feeling about Sam based on AHBL and other past episodes. Don't know if it is an original gut feeling or if someone else has already mentioned it cuz again, bandwidth cap.

I too was shocked by all the hatred that was and still is flying around. I never realized so many fans that loved one of the brothers, hated the other. I favor one ..hehe..but I don't hate the other or even dislike him at all. *shrugs*. I will just keep telling myself all those crazy comments that were made came from 13 year old girls. Well, I think this story line means the opposite. Finaly Dean is forced to see that he does matter. Even though he has been lead to believe that Sam is the most important thing in the world. The world would be worse off without Dean in it.

It;s a chance to show that they both have an important part to play, not just Sam and his powers, but Dean for who he is. Sam might just be a Demon-toy, Dean is called back by the other side.

From the minute I heard that Dean would be going to hell, I knew the other side wouldn;t let evil win.

I do wonder how this will play out though.
