Remember my Thank You post to Kripke after the S5 finale?
After a whole summer and some more thinky thoughts, I have something to add.
No spoilers!!!
So...I still think Kripke has done a pretty awesome job with the show. He created two interesting characters and a great mythology. He added some good recurring or regular characters and the crew, the actors, the directors, the writers did their job with passion.
So far so good.
SPn is full of little mistakes, lack of continuity, plot holes, things left unsaid or unexplained...but I haven't ever cared for real. Yes sometimes I was bothered or annoyed but I kept going thinking that the show was consistent with the idea of its creator.
There is just one big thing that made me change my mind on Kripke. He failed me just once: when he decided that Dean and Adam were on the same level for being Michael's vessel.
If you remember our discussions, I have never wanted Dean to say yes. Why? Because for me Dean didn't need to be an angel to be special. He already was. Anyway the main reason is that Dean saying yes, would have been a betrayal of Dean's character and everyrthing Kripe had always told us about him. So he made Dean say no and I was happy and proud of this choice. Imo Dean's integrity was safe.
Imo Kripke didn't ruin Dean. Not even in 5.22, as many fans think.
I like how they handled the finale. I liked the outcome. What I don't like and I hadn't understood in May, is how they have arrived to the finale. IMHO Adam was useless. We didn't need to see Lucifer VS Michael. It wasn't Michael to defeat Lucifer, it was Sam and it was so good to see Sam having his moment of redemption.
I have never been fond of the idea of Adam and I am not of him as a vessel. To be honest, I have nothing against him, but, plot-wise, I think it doesn't make sense to give such a big role (even if on screen it wasn't so important) to a character that was there just for a couple of episodes. Adam has been used as a plot device and for me it just doesn't work.
Just so you know, I would have said the same things if it was Sam to be replaced. They have built up 5 seasons telling us that Sam would have gone dark side and they finally showed us that he was good and that he could defeat the Evil out of his love for his family. They have spent two seasons telling us that Dean had a special role for God and they dropped it in a way I can't like. It was like Kripke wanted to get rid of the show, like he was tired of it and he decided to end it without spending much time thinking about the consistency of his own storyline and mythology.
Don't get me wrong, I love his job and what he has given to me in this 5 years but he kinda ruined the happy end between me, as a viewer, and him, as a writer with that choice.
So now, I am willing to see S6, that for me will be a complete new show. With a little bit of "nostalgia" and regret, I'm going to enjoy this new ride.

Date: 2010-09-23 06:54 am (UTC)Of course they don't give Dean what they told us they would have given...*shakes head*
Do you mind if I friend you back?

Date: 2010-09-23 04:12 pm (UTC)I thoughtthat the whole point of the 'destiny' of Sam and Dean was their geneology, and that John and Mary had been 'Cupided' specially. That means Adam wouldn't qualify anyway, since Mary wasn't his mother.
IDK, it seemed a little off to me. Jake's pretty; Adam's bland.

Date: 2010-09-23 05:30 pm (UTC)TOTALLY AGREE!
Actaully I agree on the whole genaelogy thing even if Michael said that it was something in John blood line...
Friended!

Date: 2010-09-22 03:41 pm (UTC)It would have been more powerful because in Christian Mythology, God put humans above the angels, so if two humans -Sam and Dean- face up to Lucifer and win, it proves that God was right in doing that. Also it keeps our boys the hero's of their own story.
I am looking forward to this season, if for nothing else, The Pretty!

Date: 2010-09-22 03:41 pm (UTC)I don't mide Dean saying No, what i didn't like was a reaction from all others that made me feel disgust of all of them.
And i think the finale was so poor executed it was a shame.
I'm cautiously optimistic right now about S6 but i refuse to let my hope up because of betrayal of S5. Let's see what Sera can do with the show and let's hope she won't ruin Dean. That's all i care about.

Date: 2010-09-22 05:13 pm (UTC)I haven't decided yet whether I'll be watching on Friday or going to a movie. But I imagine I'll eventually get up the nerve to try it out. But only for Dean. I really can't care about anything else to do with it anymore.

Date: 2010-09-22 11:28 pm (UTC)This is exactly where I was post 5.22! It felt like Kripke was pissed at us for not swallowing EVERYTHING he threw at us without question and said "F*@k you very much, I'm so glad I'm out of here you ungrateful punks!"
That really kind of hurt, given I'd been loyal from the beginning and I wasn't one of the fangirls to rant and rave about every little misstep of inconsistency, but he put me in the same box as everyone one else and labelled me an ungrateful git. That really left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I'll admit soured my experience of SPN to some degree.
Though like you I am an optimist and will be happily glued to my screen come Saturday (when I get to DL it) avidly watching my favourite show to see how they manage to take it off in it's new direction.
There is always hope! :D

....and there is always DEAN!

Date: 2010-09-23 07:39 am (UTC)Kripke, though, at times leaves me baffled because whenever he talks about the show, he sounds a bit immature, as if he only has a general idea of where he wants to bring the story while the details are fuzzy.
Yes to the new season. We'll see how it goes.

Date: 2010-09-23 07:52 am (UTC)Cmq sentire Jensen così su Dean mi ha messo di cattivo umore.
