SPN magazine with Jensen coverhere.
Jensen speaks on Jared. They love each other for real.
What’s the greatest danger the Winchester brothers face? Demons? Vampires? Werewolves? Ghosts? Shapeshifters? Tricksters, maybe? It’s actually none of the above. The greatest danger they face is the relationship between their off-screen counterparts, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, imploding... because nothing can save a show when there’s a lack of chemistry between leads.
“I think that’s definitely the most important thing about the show,” Ackles concurs. “Like [Supernatural creator] Eric Kripke says, ‘It’s about family.’ And I think if there wasn’t that chemistry between the brothers then it would all be for naught. I think that’s a very important aspect of the show... and the fact that it’s not just acted. Jared and I just don’t bring that on-screen, and then off-screen we hate each other. Friendship off-set is very transparent to the chemistry on set.
“It’s really cool, you know, working with somebody so close. I’ve gotten to see him grow as an actor. He was talented before, but I’ve seen a progression of his talent, and his work’s really blossomed.” Ackles points out that on Gilmore Girls, Padalecki was just a recurring character. “Sometimes we like to call it window dressing. I don’t think he really got the interesting stuff on that show. He did a few movies, but was never the focus of the whole film. I mean, he’s worked with some great people, but this is his first project that actually focuses on him and gives him the limelight, and it’s neat to see him come into his own. I’m proud of him, much like an older brother, actually. I can’t say enough about the guy. I’m a big fan!”
