'Supernatural' panelists' first time & Season Three details
By Tamara Brooks
July 28, 10:16 PM
Starting with a short behind-the-scenes documentary of season two's finale and a three-minute montage of the series, the Supernatural panel consisting of Co-Executive Producer/Writer Ben Edlund, Writer/Executive Story Editor Sera Gamble, Executive Producer/Writer/Creator Eric Kripke and star Jensen Ackles began what was their collective first Comic Con experience. Met with a flurry of flashes from the full crowd, the majority female, Sera said to Jensen, "I've never seen so many cameras pointed at me. I should sit next to you more often."
Hightlights:
Kripke states that Season Three is a "wartime season. It's giddy in the writing room." There will be a lot more action as the Winchesters hunt down the demons who escape the portal to hell that was opened, and thankful shut, in the finale. He's also glad to be at this point, having already established all the mythos and history needed to really have the characters cut loose. "There's a point where you set the chess board and then it's time for the fun stuff to begin. And it's time for the fun stuff to begin," he stated happily.
On the two female additions - Eric clarified that "they are not going to be the girlfriends, they [all] won't be riding in the Impala eating Scooby Snacks." Ruby (played by Katie Cassidy) is "unhinged" and "ruthless" with a big reveal to her character coming in episode 2 - "she's not who she seems to be." Ben, who created the character, explainsed that Bela (Lauren Cohan) is involved in demon hunting for herself - not because some event pulled her into it like the other characters. When asked how he felt about the addition of the "Winchester girls," as they were jokingly refered to, Jensen replied, "Thank God. Anyone other than Jared." Of course he was kidding, later adding that he and Jered welcomed the new characters and appreciate the chance to build up new relationships and explore how they effect Sam and Dean. Sera added, "These girls won't make the boys happy or satisfied in any way. You're the star of the most nihilistic show on television." To which Jense dryly replied, "Fantastic."
Speaking of making the Winchester Brothers unhappy, Sera announced that Gordon Walker (played by Sterling K. Brown) will be coming back and that "bad things are in store" for him. Sounds ominous. She also stated that the character of Bobby Singer (played by Jim Beaver) will get some more attention.
Jensen on Dean having 1 year to live what he'd do - "I think it's fairly obvious what Dean would do. And he will be doing a lot of that. A lot, a lot, a lot."
Eric on the "Hollywood Babylon" episode (written by Ben) - It turns out that every note Gary Cole's executive character gave to the fake production was a real note that was given from the studio. "...We hung him and snapped his neck and there was our response [to the notes]." When notes were received on this episode, the studio's response was "'We love it! It's so funny!' Really? Because we're ripping on you!"
When a woman asks what size engine the Impala has, Eric asks her, "Is that an entodre?" To answer the question, Jensen then launches into a lot of car tech speak that I really couldn't write fast enough, after which Ben states, "Jensen is a man." "A real man," Eric confirms.
Since "The Yellow Eyed Demon" has been defeated, Sam will no longer have premonitions and he is the sole survivor of the "psychic kids," which Kripke admits he was sick of. And that bit about Mama Winchester recognizing the demon that killed her? Look for a relating big reveal in the second episode.

The television fans who attend Comic-Con sure know how to step up to the plate. Even if they have to roll out of bed very early to do it.

During yesterday's autograph session for "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles and cast members from "Smallville," extreme Comic-Con love meant a mob of fans, a sea of cameras and multiple warnings from the security guards who tried in vain to keep the crowd moving.
Becky and Mike Castelo of Simi Valley got in line for yesterday's 10 a.m. “Bionic Woman” panel at 4 a.m. Not because they were particularly excited about the much-anticipated NBC remake of the '70s series, but because they had a present for actor Greg Grunberg, who was appearing at the “Heroes” panel being held in the same room. The panel that started at 12:45.
Comic-Con fans don't just watch TV, they live for TV. And yesterday, the people who blog, lobby and mobilize behind the shows they love got the credit they deserved. Along with the kind of tributes only the Con can provide.

In the year since making its public debut at the 2006 Comic-Con, NBC's “Heroes” has become one of the network's biggest hits, earning big pop-culture buzz and eight Emmy nominations in the process. And during a panel in a packed 4,600-seat ballroom, the show's cast and creators showered the fans who spread the word after last year's screening with some choice words of their own.
“We came here with nothing to show but a 72-minute pilot and not much else,” said creator Tim Kring. “You helped create the incredible, enormous success of the show. It really did generate here.”
Except for the surprise appearance by Danny Bonaduce, who stood in line for his chance to ask the cast a question, the biggest shock of the morning involved “Heroes: Origins,” a six-episode spinoff airing next spring. Halfway through the “Heroes” love-fest, Kring revealed that the writer and director behind the first “Origins” episode would be Con favorite, “Clerks” writer/director Kevin Smith.

At the "Heroes" panel, fan fave Masi Oka (center) responded to the crowd's supersized welcome with a hoot of his own. Artist Tim Sale (left) and co-star Adrian Pasdar were happy to join in.
And before the gang departed, Becky Castelo got up from her seat in the very front row and gave Greg Grunberg the shirt she made for her favorite hero.
It's not just the TV fans who lose sleep over the Con. After wrapping up a shoot in Vancouver at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, “Supernatural” co-star Jensen Ackles flew to San Diego to meet the people who have helped keep the CW's cheeky ghost-hunting drama on the air.
The “Supernatural” devotees also keep the show on its toes. When it was announced that the new season would find the roguish Dean Winchester (Ackles) and his demon-hunting brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) sharing their adventures with two new female co-stars, the possessive fans had such a massive meltdown, creator Eric Kripke and his crew had to do some quick spin-control interviews. Yesterday, they were still spinning.
“They are not brought in to be the boys' girlfriends,” Kripke reassured the “Supernatural” panel audience. “It won't be the four of them riding around in the Impala eating Scooby Snacks.”
In interview before the panel, an impressively fresh-faced Ackles talked about how much “Supernatural” love is too much, and how much is just right.
“It does protect us from the writers,” Ackles said of the fans' proprietary interest in Sam and Dean. “The fans love Dean driving the car and Sam shooting a big gun, and those are the things we love as well. Jared and I are very protective of the characters, and the fans are, too.”
