Are you kidding?.

One thing is using a cruise ship to provide Haiti with supplies, another one is making money out of it. Even though the company has stated they are donating money to help Haiti.

I don't think it's time for tourism now. They can help later or they could have helped more when they were there.

Maybe I am cynical, but I don't believe in the good faith of those big companies.

Just my opinion.

I have to disagree with you. Royal Carribbean is contributing to the continuing economy of Haiti and has created jobs and such for Labadee. Not stopping there would have meant less money into the economy, plus, considering they are a cruise and people have paid them for things, the fact that they are dropping aid in Labadee to go to Port-Au-Prince is pretty noble. Bad things happen every day, and some of them can be just hours from anywhere. The cruise line and the people on that cruise are giving aid, plus, bolstering the country's economy. Sure, the cruise could've bypassed the port all together. But they didn't. Either way, the party on that cruise was going to go on, whether at Labadee port or not.

I can see your point and I agree they don't have to stop.

I just think they can do the same later, imo this is not the moment to do a cruise there.

They dropped aid and it was a good thing, but maybe they could have used their ship to help people more.

About the people who paid for the cruise, I think they could have been refounded. Of course this is just my opinion and I think it's just up to our own sensibility and way of seeing things.
You have your points and I respect them, I just disagree.

It's not easy to explain what I want to say without being misundertood.

Ships actually have to submit itineraries and such and have planned timetables. Skipping the port may have been possible, and trying to put in at another port elsewhere for longer, if it worked out with that other port to do so. But to be honest, because of those legal matters, they really did what they were able to do. With all all those different countries' ports those cruises stop at, it would have been very tough to make new arrangements. There would've been higher docking fees, rearrangement of other ships' dockings, etc in order to skip Labadee and go elsewhere. These things are done according to international law. It's likely that ship was already in the water when the earthquake happened, and changing the iterinary would've been a legal and financial headache. Those cruises are a couple weeks long usually.

I see you know a lot about it, so thanks for your insight.

Usually when I hear this news, my reaction is based on what I feel. Then I can discuss everything.

You said exactly what I think:

and changing the iterinary would've been a legal and financial headache
Better leave the things as they had to be than even try to make some change.
Nothing to say, I just don't like it.

I can see both sides of the argument, definitely. If I was one of the people who had booked a cruise I would have to think long and hard about whether my economic contribution to the country via tourism was worth it.

I can see them too, I just don't like one of them.

Just my two cents.

I can see both sides on this, but you have the right not to like it. I myself would feel too much a ambulance chaser to be on the cruise and be there, but that's just me. The tourist $$ should help all the same.

I am not judging the people on the ship..I just don't think I could be there and enjoy it.

But that's just me.
