-Meredith and Alaric shared an understanding, just like Damon and Elena...just saying...

-Oh Ric, what is the ring doing to you?

-Elena, drop this attitude please. You are not beliavable and Damon is the right person, because he knows how to control his blood needs.

-I can't help, this witch thing bothers me, I found their self pity attitude very boring.

-During the whole very woman like "nice" chat between Sage and Rebekah, which I very much enjoyed, I couldn't help but thinking what Damon was thinking. How can I take some adavantage from Sage's hate for Rebekah and Rebekah's soft spot for Damon? Oh my boy :)

-Damon being a sexy!snarky!sex machine makes me explode. Seriously. It's all about his body language and Ian's voice...*thud*

-This is the Caroline I like. Give me more, please.

-He didn't kill Damon, because he does love him...of course.

-"own it, live it, love it". SO MUCH THIS!

-Looks like Bonnie will have a new love interest...

-Abby needs some serious help.

-Damon dancing....please stop...there's so much a girl can take at 8 in the morning...

-Damn Damon, you are mean...if Rebekah weren't a bitch herself, I could seriously feel sorry for her. Actually I do, exactly for the reasons Sage stated so well.

-Sorry, Abby and Bonnie bore me...

-Damon sex in the shower...to get to know what Rebekah is up to. Sage powers are great.

-Good Damon, you are smart pretty boy!

-Sage is truly obsessed with Finn, isn't she? Damon better not to trust her.

-Jeremy might be in danger...

-"I'll start with Finn"...so HOT!

-Damon babysitting Ric...so cute.

-"She'll be fine Ric"....awwwww....

-Awww I want Bonnie to be around her friends. I like her more.

-Jer and Elena...*melts*

-TEAM SALVATORE FTW!!! Damon was smart..."I sold my rage"....eheheheh he was fooling Sage :)

Not one of the best episodes of the season, but it was enjoyable and a lot of stuff happened.

Characters:

-Alaric
I wasn't one of those who was in love with Psycho!Alaric. I do prefer old Ric better. I like that he is protective of the people he loves and that he cares, beyond his beliefs, about vampires as friends. He sees the persons behind them, he was able to actually see Damon and care for him. Now I think we will have old Alaric/Damon friendship back.

-Meredith
-This was the first episode where I actually liked her. I do agree with Psycho!Ric btw. She doesn't kill vamps, because she wants their blood to heal people. So I guess what the show is trying to say is that none can be easily judged. Everyone has a darl side.

-Rebekah
She is a bitch who only watches out for herself, but that is in desperate need of some love and attention. She wanted to believe that Damon was interested in her (because I also think she likes him), but I think deep down she knew Damon was faking it.
I feel sorry for this girl, life has not been kind to her...but if she wants to beloved, she needs to connect to people, excatly like Klaus and so far they have both failed.

-Sage and Sage/Damon
I liked her, but I didn't trust her. It was easy to understand that she was going to sell Damon out to save Finn. Her obsession is totally unhealthy (very similar to Damon's one for Kath), but she was a good teacher for Damon. So they weren't friends and I didn't expect them to be..but I wonder how many times Damon has been disappointed and failed by people he trusted/loved?
Btw, I loved the interaction between Damon and Sage; the actors did a good job and I loved to see the tension. It was a game and both of them were enjoying it.

-Stefan and Stefan/Elena
I am glad to see that little Stefan is winning his battle and he his listening to his brother advice. I am also content with how he treated Elena. She was harsh and judgy, while she had to understand that Stefan can't just be what he used to be..because that Stefan was just denying his real self. Somewhere between the ripper and saint Stefan, there is the real Stefan. This is the journey I am eager to see.

-Damon and Damon/Elena.
It amazes me how this character can be flawless, being flawed.
In this episode he was around Ric taking good care of his best friend, he was mean to Rebekah, he trusted Sage and then he was set up and was willing to kill her. He was happy for his brother and he stood up to Elena, who was, imo, totally wrong this time about the control thing. He connected the dots and he found the weapons to kill the Originals.
So, is there any other character in this show who is in pretty much in everything that happens? No. He is the one.
Thoughts on Damon/Elena: Elena was wrong saying that Damon was not the right person to teach Stefan how to control his blood addiction. Damon knows exactly how to. For two reasons:a) he has learned it in the first place; 2) he knows Stefan better than anyone else.
The point is that since Dangerous Liaisons every time Elena talks to Damon, she says one thing and she means something about the two of them. In the last episode when she told him not to push people away, she was talking about herself, because Damon actually is not pushing anyone away...now she should just admit that if she had listened to him in 3.14, nothing would have happened. Abby would be still human, Damon and Elena would be still close.
She wanted to play the hero and she messed up with things. How naive was of her to believe that Elijah wouldn't have found out the truth? I think that deep down Elena knows it and the more she keeps Damon away, the less she has to really question her actions.
I like so much her journey. It's subtle and fascinating.
Excatly like I am enjoying Damon's one. Damon, who is able to get the best from the worst without losing his aplomb. Damon who is still by Ric's side even if he had treated him like shit lately. Damon who is there to catch his brother when he falls.
Damon who doesn't care to treat an Original like Rebekah, to get what he wants...and I bet he will pay for it.
So yeah....Damon wins. Always.

-Elena
As I said, I like her journey. She is a young woman who is growing up in a dark world and has to make choices that sometimes are the oppositi of what she believes in.
I loved how awkward she was aroudn Bonnie, waiting for her to take the first step. She was respecting her grief and her personal space. I love Elena with her friends.
I also loved the little phone-call between her and Jeremy. How he looked free and happy, while she was burdened with the heavyness and darkness that her life has become.
I would have slapped her both with Damon and Stefan, but I do get her attitude. I see why she is like that and she couldn't be any different. It's totally unsafe for her to accept that Stefan is not what she thought him to be and that Damon is exactly what she wants him to be. She loves Damon for who he is, because Damon has always been himself around her. There's no camouflage. Damon is there, like he is, and she can't shake him.
She just needs more time to accept that she is changing and that her moral values have changed. Not easy, but Elena will get there.

One more thought on the Originals and why they have to be killed (even if I don't want to).
The only one who has to be killed imo is Klaus, but since Esther linked them together, they would all die...do I like this? No. I'd rather have them off from Mystic Falls than have them dead..but Klaus has to die, unless he gives up forever to his hybrid army plan.
Klaus told Damon and Stefan that Elena would have been better off without them. The reason behind this it's that Klaus wants Elena to have children. He wants the doppelganger blood line to never end. This would be a curse for Elena, for her descendants. That's why the Salvatores want him dead. They don't trust him and he has never said that he was giving up his plans, so yeah...that's why he needs to die...unless he changes, for real.

That's all!

Tonight, SPN....let's hope for the best!!! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

i also don't think it was a highly captivating episode. i was expecting more from Sage, considering how bad-ass she was back in 1912. it shouldn't be so easy to fool her, yet i am still incredibly proud of Damon for winning that round ;)

also, i like Damon/Rebekah. kind of sad that they couldn't develop a real relationship, or friendship even! :( it has echoes of Faith/Angel for me.

is there any other character in this show who is in pretty much in everything that happens? No. He is the one.
this is why he is so interesting and dynamic. also why he manages to step on so many toes and people (characters) hate him lol

i love your thoughts on Elena, because they make me remember to sympathise with her. at first i was not happy with her attitude at all, but your thoughts make me think about how she must feel. her world fell apart when her parents died and since then she's been trying to rebuild. now the world that she thought she'd build is all but shattered and collapsed too. it must be so hard for her, especially since everyone keeps dying on her and Jeremy is so far away... and now she has to come to grips with the real vampire nature if she wants to continue to associate with them (i think she was being naive before... when she was with Stefan).

Damon was all kinds of awesome for getting stuff done this episode. As usual, I totally agree with everything you said about him. Getting to see so much of naked!Damon was delightful. I did enjoy when he was so smooth with Rebekah. She really does just want someone to pay her attention and like her. Sage's ability to take & put images in other's minds was cool.

I found Alaric & Meredith interesting this time. I thought Matt Davis did an excellent job of portraying Psycho!Alaric. The scene in the MRI machine, his face said so much. Nicely done, Matt! I also didn't wan't Meredith to die, for the first time, when Ric was going after her.

Yay, for Stefan learning control and toasting himself. I'm happy to see him starting to find his middle ground.

Bonnie & Caroline & Abby were better that before, IMO. I was ready to smack Abby for bailing on Bonnie again, but really wasn't surprised given her history.

Elena's journey is a tough one. I didn't much like her attitude either, finding it more than a little judgey, but I do understand where it came from. It just seems so sad to me that her & Damon had this lovely, close friendship and that seems to be gone for the moment. I would have liked her to reach out to Damon when she was having a hard time at the end of the episode (but I'm glad we got to see Jeremy). Her saying that Damon isn't the best one to teach Stefan self-control was way off the mark. I'm interested to see where Elena's character ends up by the end of this season.

Glad I got up early for this one! I love Sage. I shouldn't but I do! And Damon was awesome. Hate what he did to Bex, but looking at some of the spoilery stills... she's get back at him!

I think Elena is very delusional. It seems like when she says things like it is going to be okay. It sounds like she is trying to convince herself more than others.

That scene with Meredith, Elena and Stefan in that bathroom... wow. Just wow.

I felt so bad for Bex though.

I can't help, this witch thing bothers me, I found their self pity attitude very boring.

You said it, sister. I find the action grinds to a halt whenever the witches come on screen, and when they're not in the episode, I never ever miss them. And Abby is the worst - good riddance. She annoys the crap out of me.

I am glad Bonnie "cured" Ric, of course. So maybe he won't be killed off like I feared. Of course, if that Pilot gets picked up, he's still going to be written out. And what of all the people he killed, even if he wasn't in his right mind? That's a sticky situation.

But I love how Damon is there to get him out of the hospital, and sitting by his bedside later in the episode. *happy sigh*

They really didn't do as much with Sage as I'd have liked, though Damon did enough with her. *cough* *waggle-waggle* Nice shower scene! But, really, Sage, you could do a lot better than mopey Finn. Bad taste there - though I guess since he's her maker, she's bound to him whether it's a good idea or not. But I loved it when Damon got in her face about how much Finn hasn't been thinking about her all these years, and how he just wants to end his life. She deserved that after she deceived him.

And then I was frustrated thinking, damn, not again - Damon's plans once again are thwarted. But then, BEST SCENE OF THE EPISODE, when Damon walks in with the white ash sign, knowing all along it was there and play-acting his ragey self at the bridge. And he and Stefan are once again a team. Loves!!!!!!!!

Happy Friday!!! :D Definitely hoping for the best re:SPN *fingers crossed*

Now for TVD. :) Lovely review, Val! Much agreement and love for this post.
Elena, drop this attitude please. You are not beliavable and Damon is the right person, because he knows how to control his blood needs. THIS!!! Elena managed to piss me off right away and that makes me sad. I've been trying to be understanding of her and her situation but this talk with Damon really pressed my buttons. There's denial then there's DENIAL and that girl has got it in spades and so much so she's endangering the people around her and herself! Not to mention the fact she DIDN'T tell Jeremy about the ring when she should have!! Again, the denial level has gone too high and is at the red. Very, very, bad. Ranting aside, I love your thoughts about how she wanted to be the hero and in her naivety screwed up big time and is really struggling to admit it. She is still young and dealing with a difficult situation and I have to keep reminding myself of that.

Damon and Ric
-Damon babysitting Ric...so cute. Probably my favorite scene of the eppy, lol. So cute! And also very telling of how Damon sees Ric. Even if Damon doesn't actually believe Ric is on his side or will back him up, Damon will back Ric up and keep an eye on him *melts* My bromance!

It seems that since Ric lost his SUV earlier this season, Damon has been acting as Ric's chauffeur and even his keeper. On the keeper angle, Liz called Damon in right away when Ric was put in jail and it was Damon who checked on Ric first. Or Ric called him. We don't actually know for sure. Anyway, Damon was there first. And it was later implied that Damon was there when Ric was released and gave him a ride to the Gilbert house. Ric didn't call Elena to say he was out and coming home, but just came home. This episode, Damon came to get Ric from the hospital despite the fact Elena was already there. She may have to go to school, but its difficult to tell what time of day it is or anything else regarding a timeline on this show. Either way, Damon gave Ric a ride. Then Meredith gave Ric a ride back to the Gilbert house after they left the Wickery Bridge. See? Chauffeur! Finally, the scene where Ric wakes up and Damon is there...Damon is the only one not afraid of him now, methinks. And with good reason mind. Psycho!Ric is creepy! But Damon will be right there with him cause Ric already tried and failed to kill Damon. I think Ric will take comfort in that. Also, lots of love for Damon's blunt statements. Unlike everyone else, Damon doesn't dance around the truth (much) and I hope Ric appreciates that because I certainly do. Damon won't sugar coat the truth and he won't treat Ric any different. *happy sigh* Love my bromance!

Damon and Stefan: much love here too! It was wonderful to see how Stefan has changed from the last episode, how Damon's words of support and love, coupled by action have grounded Stefan. The brothers didn't interact much, but the interactions they did have were just wonderful. I especially liked how Damon came across proud when Stefan told him he was able to control himself. Also pleased to see Stefan's journey back on track after it kinda disappeared for a couple episodes. Was kinda surprised by Stefan not caring about Ric in the slightest. He knocked him out sure, but that seemed more for Elena and Damon's benefit. Stefan, it seems, doesn't care one bit about anyone unless its Damon or Elena. Interesting. Damon cares about more people then Stefan. Elena, Ric, Stefan, Liz, Jeremy (?). Makes me think of Damon's short list of people he cares about...

Right, next up theories and thinky thoughts!

tbc..

-I can't help, this witch thing bothers me, I found their self pity attitude very boring.

Me too... you didn't see Caroline complaining this whole time, and she's had to go through it AND lose her boyfriend to it, AND her father to it... and she lost the respect of her mother once because of it.

-"own it, live it, love it". SO MUCH THIS!
I added in my head, "You freaking whiner" because that's what it felt like Damon was getting at... like, maybe he's helping him with moderation so he won't be so emo about moderation.

So yeah....Damon wins. Always.

YES YES YES! lol

I don't hate on Elena anymore, really at all. I get annoyed at times with some of the things she says/does, but I kinda really don't care I guess. I just want her to be happy, with whomever she chooses (please let it be Damon :) ). And I want Damon to be happy, and Stefan to be happy, and Caroline, and Bonnie, and Jeremy, and I could go on..but you get the gist. I want happy, mixed with some angst, because being happy all the time would be boring to watch lol

I hate to say it, because I love Klaus, but you are right. From a logical point of view definitely. Emotionally, I'm like, no please just let him go away?..that's the best outcome I think for all of the Originals, getting out of that town. It would be great if Klaus could change, but I don't see that happening, I mean, he's been around a 1000 years, he would need at least a 100 more years to change into the kind of person we want him to be.

I do prefer old Ric better. I like that he is protective of the people he loves and that he cares, beyond his beliefs, about vampires as friends.

Matt Davis did an excellent job with Psycho!Alaric, and it's rather fascinating to watch, but I definitely want to see the old Ric, the protective one, back after all of this... please don't kill him off, TVD!

She doesn't kill vamps, because she wants their blood to heal people.

I know, that was such a good point! I had issues with Meredith trying to come across as a Mary Sue, so it was great that Ric's alter ego called her out on it. I think I like her more now as well. :D

She is a bitch who only watches out for herself, but that is in desperate need of some love and attention.

Yeah, I think what sets her apart from Katherine in this matter is that Katherine does look out for other people she cares about, like the Salvatores, for example, and she doesn't need to beg for someone's attention... she walks in the room and has it! Rebekah has some catching up to do.

Her obsession is totally unhealthy (very similar to Damon's one for Kath)

That's definitely an interesting parallel the show presented us with... I wonder if the history is going to repeat itself there and Finn won't care, Damon did make a point of the story ringing some bells.

I think that deep down Elena knows it and the more she keeps Damon away, the less she has to really question her actions. I like so much her journey. It's subtle and fascinating. Excatly like I am enjoying Damon's one.

I agree with you here completely! Elena is definitely projecting when she's pushing Damon away, if she's mad at him, she doesn't have to add to the massive guilt she already feels for just about everything that's ever happened. *sigh* And Damon is very patient letting her know that she's wrong this time.

She loves Damon for who he is, because Damon has always been himself around her. There's no camouflage. Damon is there, like he is, and she can't shake him.

Perfectly put. She is annoyed at Stefan for "changing", but in contrast, Damon is the one constant in her life, and I think she spoke from the heart when she said she "likes him just the way he is". That's the simple truth, and she'll have to come to terms with it eventually.

Klaus told Damon and Stefan that Elena would have been better off without them. The reason behind this it's that Klaus wants Elena to have children. He wants the doppelganger blood line to never end. This would be a curse for Elena, for her descendants.

THIS. I saw some people wondering why the Salvatores still want Klaus dead since the hybrids are gone, and was like, "Hello, the dinner party! He basically admitted to wanting to have a hold on Elena's family forever, pumping her & her future descendants for blood." You were wise to write this reminder... It's either Klaus or Elena.

Not really down with the idea of them ALL going down with him, though, but since the link was made by a witch, I wonder if some magic juju could also break it... too bad all of the Originals are currently on Team Mystic Falls' bad side! (Although I do wonder about that letter of apology Elijah sent Elena.)
