OMG my heart just melted into a pathetic little puddle with the hospital scene and his pledge to protect her. I'm such a sap, but man I just adore Ian and Nina's chemistry, for me it is so much better than Paul and Nina's. I loved those two scenes two bits. Damon's love for Elena is so intense and precious, pure, I'd say. It reminds me of Human!Damon. Innocent, pure, naive.
Yeah I can't believe people don't see Stefan for who really is. It's so obvious that he is the darker...the ripper in him is stronger than anything else. The compulsion was just a way to bring it out again.
I totally agree about the idea of the mirror images of each other. Stefan wants so badly to be good that he has suppressed his dark side for too long. Damon on the other hates himslef so much that he has only tried to get himself killed with his ruthless attitude. As if the more he kills the more he sinks..but you know what? He has always felt guilty and now he is not killing (It baffles me when people wonder about him lashing out...come on he IS a vampire).
