3x22 review: part 3

Which brings me to Matt’s other fantastic scenes in his truck with Elena. I really enjoyed them, especially what he said and how he acted. He was honestly trying to protect her, trying to do what was best for her. Also I found it very interesting that Matt was the one who got the call about Klaus’ ‘death’ from Jeremy and that no one else tried to call Elena. Now why didn’t Stefan bother to call her may I ask? Especially since he’s SaintStefan again for no properly explainable reason. Manipulator Stefan at work again, never telling Elena everything unless directly confronted with it and he can’t hide it.

So I suppose I should talk about Stefan now. Stefan is, unfortunately, on my bad list because of the sheer manipulation and lies he tells Elena. His scenes with her tonight made me want to puke. Just…nu uh. Not working for me. Utterly failure on the writers part for making Stefan face the consequences of his actions and having a chance to mature and grow. BUT, he did have some good moments in regards to his brother. Definitely feeling the love between the brothers, which is nice. Not much else to say there.

Now for Bonnie. Bonnie, like Matt and Jeremy, is coming into her own in this episode and making decisions based on what she wants and decides, not what she is told to do. Very nice to see Bonnie gaining some independence as a witch and a woman. Her character arc next year should be very interesting depending on how it plays out. I must say I cheered when she said screw the witch spirits, they didn’t control her anymore because honestly, they have been just as controlling, more so actually considering they’ve possessed her twice to do what they wanted and left Bonnie vulnerable each time to a vampire drinking her blood (though I will honestly say Damon’s reaction while wrong was more sympathetic considering Emily, using Bonnie, betrayed Damon and broke her word). If I were Bonnie, I’d say screw the witch spirits too. And considering the horror that Klaus put Bonnie through and what the other Originals have done as well as the Salvatores…yeah, it will be good to see her take charge of herself. My hope for her now is that she learns that by taking that position, responsibility rests solely with her for her choices and the consequences. No more blaming Damon for everything. Time to grow up and mature. I’m also curious how accessing black magic from the last episode will change her. She is strong enough, I think, to handle it, but not alone.

Question: why was she with Damon at the storage locker and taking a gander at Klaus aside from the writers’ obvious need to have her there to perform a witchy spell to save Klaus’ soul and therefore not kill all our vampire heroes?? Something about a tracking spell?

I don’t really have anything to say about Tyler and Caroline. I like them just fine, but truthfully they are two characters I could give or take and I didn’t really care for their scenes. But I do have lots of love for their mothers who just want to protect them. Really, Carol and Liz both shone in that scene, their fear and love and desperation. And worst of all, they don’t know what has happened to Alaric. At least it hasn’t been confirmed whether they knew. Poor dears! My heart went out to the two mothers who so dearly love their children and also juggle difficult jobs. And they have survived the season! Hooray!! I adore Liz and Carol, Liz more so and I hope we see more of them and how they cope with the fallout in the next season.
