Speaking of Matt, I love how he actually followed Jeremy's lead and willingly backed him up when they went to rescue Elena from Esther. And his grounding presence throughout this episode was great I think. So much love for Matt and his continued awesomeness. His character growth has been great to see and I can only hope he survives this season, especially with Alaric now an Original Vampire brainwashed witch minion. =/
And Damon, oh Damon. While Ric has been a dick to him, I still loved their last scene together and the implications of more time spent together then we got to see and how well they actually know each other. Damon clearly knows Ric well because he was right about Ric preferring to die than continuing to kill and be ruled by his dark side. *sniffs* I'll be watching that scene over and over again, I know. Also, I'm glad Damon knew Elena asked Stefan to be her escort to the dance and didn't find out some other way, as awful as it was how he learned it. He is doing exactly what he told Elena he would do: he's not lashing out and its all on Elena to make a choice. I also rather enjoyed how Meredith, despite not caring for her too much as she hasn't been developed enough yet, spoke to Damon and how she listened and urged him to go join Ric. Yes, it SHOULD have been Elena but I do appreciate Meredith being there and the beginnings of a bond between them especially since Elena has pissed me off so much.
It also seems Damon is cementing his position as the resident Cassandra nobody listens to then blames after everything goes kaput like Dean. My poor guys!
Question: when did Elena turn into such a victim and become so stupid? In the first half of S3 she was really growing, getting tougher and proving to be quite smart. The last glimpse of that girl was when she escaped the ropes and tricked a compelled Jamie in 3.12. Since then its like she's just been foolish, impulsive, and often cruel/manipulative (not intentionally some of the time) to those around her, especially Damon. Now if its genuine character growth and she owns up to her mistakes and apologizes for them to the people she has hurt to their faces and makes attempts at changing etc its fine, but if not...*shakes head*
Just some thoughts and feelings on my part. Lovely review, as always, and some interesting thoughts on Stefan and Stefan/Elena. Hmm, I'll take those under consideration.
