Part 3

On to Caroline. Oh Caroline! Sorry, I might be the only one in the fandom, but I am kinda annoyed by her attitude right now.

Don’t be because I am too! Love your look at her position however and how her flaws add to her character. Very true! As I mentioned earlier though, her laying all the blame/heat for going after Klaus still at his feet grated. I have a couple problems with her assertions. For one, of course Damon doesn’t care about Tyler and he never has. BUT, that didn’t stop him from saving him and Caroline the night of the sacrifice, even getting bit to save Caroline and Matt from Tyler and he shifted. Two, Caroline didn’t bring up the fact that Klaus remaining alive leaves him an ever looming threat over Elena’s life and the life of any one she loves or even a future family. Oh and that puts the rest of the Mystic Falls gang in danger, even Tyler if he manages to break the sire bond because Klaus may well decide to end his life for that defiance…or take revenge in some other way.

Also, Caroline’s comment to Rebekah about sleeping with anyone in sight was cruel not to mention hypocritical to the nth degree! Rebekah is much like Caroline was in S1 and her blindness and snobbery in that regard is grating given what she went through because one might expect her to have more compassion since she herself was in a similar situation (ie attracted to Damon and wanting to jump his bones just cause). Though I personally think Rebekah’s was actually worse because Damon pretended to care vs just compelling Caroline. And for Rebekah, she hasn’t had any friends or anyone to really love her for a long, long time.

Tyler as her boyfriend, for me, worked well in showing the star crossed lovers routine and I enjoy their scenes when they actually talk. S2 Caroline and Tyler had many fantastic ones together and even some great scenes earlier in S3 before Klaus turned him into a hybrid. Tyler isn’t my favorite by any stretch, but he’s still a good character and adds more to the plot and characters around him and vis versa.
