Part 2
The Originals are up next.

I am torn about the Originals. I don't want them to die, but I want them to leave. I don't really understand why some fans don't consider Klaus a threat anymore. He still is, as long as he won't give up to his army plan. He wants and needs Elena to be a slave. This is a threat and unfair. That being said, I think my favorite one is Rebekah. I was so sorry for her in this episode. First Matt, then Esther. Looks like none loves her, but everyone wants to use her.

Well said! I am not torn as much, I admit, and I’m ready for the Originals to go so the focus can come back to the original main cast a bit more. Klaus is most definitely still a threat and remains a wild card that can snap at any given moment. And Caroline’s attitude about him really bothered me in this episode, especially her accusations of it being DAMON as the only one who is determined to kill Klaus. But that’s for later. Anyway, on the Original front, I must agree that my favorite at this point is Rebekah. But then I was never enamored with Elijah, Klaus, or any of the other Originals (though Mikael was a lot of fun and a great villain for a brief time and Finn intrigued me but he’s gone now). My heart broke for her when Esther talked a lot of talk so she could touch her and escape her dying body. Poor girl!

Matt, I think, is partially genuine though in his treatment of Rebekah. I say that because looking at 3x14 and how he gave her his jacket simply because he was being a gentleman and driving Rebekah home in this episode seemed very much the same. It’s just who Matt is. He’s not malicious or mean in general. A great example would be how he reacts to Elena becoming a couple with Stefan when the series began. Yes he was jealous, but also hurt and sad and missing Elena. And he never lashed out at Elena. Yes, there was the football tackle but he immediately regretted it and apologized afterwards. He’s just a nice guy. And he’s been the most grown up of the Mystic Falls bunch from the very beginning because he had been living for years with a flaky mom, no dad, and an irresponsible older sister. Matt’s also been very supportive or everyone, for the most part with the craziness going on. In the show, he’s the normal guy dealing with all these extraordinary events the best he can. Not to say he can’t lash out, be mean or anything or do/say stupid stuff, he does and has and that’s what makes him a great character because he’s very dimensional given the limited screen time he gets. He’s still growing up like everyone else and, like Jeremy and Tyler, doesn’t have any good male role models to rely on. Unlike Jeremy and Tyler though, he’s been dealing with becoming his own man by himself for years and as such can guide them somewhat as they themselves make that journey. I think that’s partially why I love Matt, Jeremy, and Tyler so much. Okay, I don’t love Tyler that much, especially in the beginning, but he’s come a long way and I enjoy the dynamic he brings to the gang. Anyway, these three remind me a great deal of one Dean Winchester and the world he was thrust in to at a young age and the fact he had to raise himself and his brother due to an absent, negligent, drill sergeant of a father. Damon shows signs of the same thing, having to grow up making himself a man based on what he knew, understood, and decided.

Wow, long tangent, lol. :)
