Finally saw the episode and can comment on it! Yay!!!

Much love for your post!!! You highlighted just about everything that stood out to me as well. Damon is definitely perfect and his character growth as showcased in this episode is AWESOME! I LOVED Damon standing up for himself to Elena and making it so she no longer has any excuse or anything to hide or bury her head in the sand in. Go Damon!! :D

All right, to the nitty gritty, but not everything you said, I promise. Just most of it. :P I’ll stick to character categories to keep from rambling forever though. Hee!

I also enjoyed the parallel between Ric and Stefan darksides and how easy is for them to lose control. They are both weak, they are both still unable to figure out what to do with their alter-egos, but Stefan is one step ahead...what they both have to understand is that there is no control if there isn't self acceptance and while for Ric this is all new, Stefan has simply denied his nature for too long.

Starting with Stefan and Alaric, I must say I agree wholeheartedly with this! I particularly found it enjoyable and powerful in showcasing how an uncontrolled dark side can wreak untold havoc and make everyone, not just the one person with the dark side ego, miserable. The dynamic between Stefan and Alaric was just great. Stefan came across a few times as still the student in Ric’s history class while at the same time having the experience and understanding to know what Ric is experiencing with his alter ego. And Ric was both an adult and student in the situation. Much love for this and how if differs from Ric and Damon (best friends) and even Ric and Elena (father/daughter).

Speaking of Damon and Ric…they didn’t actually have any scenes together in the episode but there were still some awesome moments in regards to them. The first was the book Damon snuck in the bag Elena took down to Ric. Jekyll and Hyde indeed! And Ric smiled the biggest he smiled the entire episode. That just made me melt! Bromance is awesome! Heh, and Damon suggested Stefan give Ric alcohol to help! Oh Damon. Though Ric was certainly happy to be able to drink kudos to Damon, even if feeding the alcoholic isn’t the best idea. And was it just me, or did Ric sound like he would have preferred Damon down there in the cell talking with him and waiting for his alter ego? And Ric, of course Damon would have a hard time torturing you! He cares about you a lot you nitwit! The second big moment was during the phone call between Stefan and Damon. The protectiveness coming off of Damon after Stefan told him Ric was dead, not to mention the fear that Ric might be dead dead…poor guy! And I just loved that. I mean really loved it. Despite Ric being an all-around jerk to Damon for so long, I adore that Damon still cares so much about Ric. I’m so excited about the next episode where there’s supposed to be much more Damon and Ric! *bounces*
