I could hear all the Delena fans shrieking with glee from all over the world when that scene commenced. LOL! That was pretty freaking hot, I admit it, and you're right, we've never really seen that kind of animal passion between Elena and Stefan. Not to say they don't have their own brand of chemistry, because they do, honestly. But it's different from what we saw between Elena and Damon - and that's good, because Elena's attraction to both should be very different.
I think Rose described it best to Jeremy - yet, even before I read Ian's recent interview with TVG, I've always been convinced that Elena will go back to Stefan, that she will opt for the safer choice. And I can see her reasons for doing so. But she can no longer deny her feelings for Damon, and I like how the writers went about showing that.
I love that Stefan didn't fight it and instead encouraged Elena to explore her feelings for Damon. I think - I hope, at least - that the Salvatores' mutual attraction to the same girl will not tear them assunder, since that's all I care about in the end, far more than who Elena ends up with (though I still think they're all nuts if they don't make it a polyamorous relationship in the end).
But I think you're right that having Damon lay it out on the line for Elena, telling her it's really her problem, not his, and it's not his job to make it easy for her, is setting up Damon to be okay with her rejection when it comes since it's pretty clear he expects it and isn't going to change just to win her since it wouldn't be honest.
You don't have to sell me on not being a Caroline cheerleader. Listen, I like her better than I have in the past, but she and Tyler still annoy the crap out of me more than other characters do - except for maybe Bonnie. There is something so one-dimensional about their relationship - it's the same old, same old inability to talk and understand anything. I hate that kind of writing and those kinds of characters.
And I have to be honest here and say I'm now tired of the kill them all/don't kill them all crap with the Originals. Come on, we know they're not going to kill them, they can't, so why do we keep pretending like this is something to care about? It's like Supernatural and the never-ending revolving door of death that has become such a running bad joke. It's time to bring in that new Big Bad, because the Originals aren't it anymore. Either send them away, or incorporate them into the town's population. I'm tired of this go-nowhere dance.
I hate Esther, I hate that she's possessing Rebekah, and the only person I want to see killed off is her.
