Now for Damon. Poor boy! Much agreement with everything you said about him, including how he wanted/did not ask to become a vampire. What Damon wanted was to be with the woman he loved forever because she was a vampire. His words were “I choose you, Katherine”. I don’t think he really thought the whole vampire thing through. 1864Damon has always struck me as extremely naive despite being involved in the Civil War, which I find interesting. It’s always made me wonder how being surrounded by all the death played in Damon’s psyche and desire to live forever with his beloved. Wanting not to die is a natural human reaction and the deaths he would have witness and caused as a soldier must have wreaked havoc on him. Pretty sure he had a case of PTSD and that only got amplified when he became a vampire. It was not a severe case, Dean has him beat by a country mile and then some in that department, but PTSD is PTSD.

Speaking of Dean, I automatically thought of him during Damon’s torture as well, as both the victim and inflictor. In particular I was reminded of Dean torturing Alastair for the angels. Dean takes the pain to a whole different level though and considering, Damon actually got off pretty light with Rebekah.

I don't know how to explain this...I just know he is not the worst person in MF. He deserves love and respect. If he left, they would be all dead.

You explained it well, hon. :) Because really, nobody was acting all that concerned about Damon or actively trying to find him and rescue him. Sure, Elena talked about it, but she didn’t act on it. And heck yeah, they would have all been dead a long time ago if Damon was gone! Dead or completely screwed over. I’m actually waiting for something to happen to drive that home to everyone.

All in all, I agree that it was a good episode. :D
