I was very pleased to see the return of vampire psychic abilities in this episode. Loved the commentary on how a vampire's age determines their capabilities there. Sage, being the oldest vampire to date beside the Originals, is very powerful and it was wonderful to see those powers in use. Hmm...I wonder if she's the one who turned Pearl and Lexi back in the day... Anyway, interesting to learn that a vampire can exchange info/memories via touch with another vampire. We haven't seen that before. Raises questions about the Originals and makes me wonder if that's how the siblings were able to adapt to the changes in the world so fast. It would certainly speed up the learning process.
Ric's alter ego was also very interesting. It made me think of how human souls can become demons in the SPN verse. And the way Ric talked and acted, it really came across like he was possessed. Given how Ric spoke to Meredith and has a Council hit list ( a list he gained by being allowed on the Council it must be said) he almost sounded like one of the show's witches. Since its a witchy object causing all this trouble, it makes sense that witch ghosts may be tied in with the ring. This does raise a sticky question though: why did Samantha Gilbert go on her killing spree? Unlike Ric's situation, there was no reason for the witchy ring to send her on a clean up the Council kill spree. And why exactly did Ric's note say the Council must be cleansed and then the real work can begin? Obvious conclusion is killing off the vampires but still, methinks there is something more to this.
Also curious statement made by Bonnie about 'keeping the darkness at bay' or something. Hmm. Something about that just...there's something to that. I have a feeling we'll be hearing about that again cause its just begging for elaboration.
Something curious I noticed too: unlike the previous doppelganger and the original one, Elena has not become pregnant with child. By the time Tatia and Katerina were her age, both of them had already given birth. By loving vampires, Elena has actually managed to prevent passing on her genes by becoming pregnant. Interesting. I wonder if she realizes that. Given the nature of spells and so on, isn't it required she have a baby and pass on the genes soon?
Final thoughts/question: Jeremy was brought back to life directly through witch intervention after Liz shot him once and also once via the ring. Katherine drained Jer, but didn't actually kill him I think... whatever. Anyway, I'm wondering, actually almost betting, that Jeremy will face different affects. What will happen/is happening to Jeremy?
Heh, and I wonder if that dog Jeremy got is actually Tyler. It makes a weird sort of sense. Tyler is closest with Jeremy and their friendship is hard earned and they share an understanding. If there is anybody that Tyler would trust to help him, I think it would be Jeremy.
