They're flying into Rome and then taking a train to Florence, where they'll spend about 4 days in and around the area. They're then going to go back to Rome and then they're taking a cruise from the port near Rome.
They've been to Italy before and my mother loves Florence and Venice, but they don't have the time to go to Venice this time. But, on this trip, they're hoping to visit Cinque Terre while they're there this time.
I have never been to Italy, but one day, I will visit and travel around. :-)
The last time they were in Italy they spent about 3 or 4 days in Rome, so this time, they're not going to spend as much time there. However, they will go to the Vatican again, especially since they'll be there during Holy Week. Also, a friend of mine is first generation Italian-American and has been to Italy a number of times and mentioned an ice cream/gelato place near The Spanish Steps that they have to go to.
My mother is definitely hoping to make it to Cinque Terre, but she's not sure if it's better/easier to travel from Rome or from Florence to get there.
