What the hell is wrong with people?

Don't tell me that guns control laws don't help and don't work, because they do work pretty much everywhere.

They were kids. Kids. Children...like mine, like yours.

I am pissed, sad, upset, outraged because this keeps happening and lots of useless words are spoken, but nothing changes.

No offence intended, still respecting every different opinion, but I strongly disagree with the idea that owing a gun is a right everyone must have. Just so you know my take on it.

My thoughts are with the families who lost someone today.

It is a senseless act. And very tragic. Just saw a news bulletin pop up that said they found 2 more dead people in a home connected to the shooter. The shooter is a 20-year old that has a past with the school he shot up. Just very very sad.

I can't even...looks like he killed his father and his mother too?

What was wrong with this guy? I can't....they were kids. Children.

His mother was a teacher at the school.. She was at the school. He went to her first from what I'm reading so far. His brother has been found dead in New Jersey. Gunshot.

I don't understand our world or the people in it... so very sad.

I have no words. My brain refuses to process all this hate and rage.

I can't stop thinking about those kids. Kids. I can't even watch the news...I just can't deal.

Yeah, I need to stop reading CNN. Turns out the mother of the suspect has been found dead in his residence and his brother was escorted from him home in New Jersey still alive by investigators. This will probably never make sense. So many senseless death and the children... same, I can't handle thinking of the poor children. Trying not to cry at work as I follow updates.

The killer family is struggling too...I wish they could have seen how disturbed he was.

The more I get to know about the details, the more I get sick...

I know how you feel.

I don't know who the people were in the house, they haven't released that info yet. At least not what I've seen.but yea, it's hard to hear when adults are killed senselessly like this, but kids......that's a whole other story. They haven't even begun to live their lives yet. So senseless.and the kids who survived and witnessed the attack, I feel so much for them. They will need lots of love and attention in the coming years.

When will they change those gun laws? I know there is mental illness behind actions like this. But that doesn't help these people.

Today when hubby and Gaia got back I just hugged her and couldn't let go.

I don't know, probably we are not supposed to deal with it at all.

At some point somewhere I read something about that people should only have kids if they are okay with having their heart walk outside of their bodies. Seems like a good description.

It's like that.

You don't even realize it before you have it. I didn't.

But right now only the thought of losing Gaia makes me stop breathing.

Here in Europe we have gun control, and there are murders in schools too.

Date: 2012-12-18 02:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x5vale.livejournal.com
I don't think the situations are comparable. In Italy we haven't never had mass murder like that in a school or in a shopping centre.
We had some cases in Europe too, but they are not as many as in the US.

Crazy people are everywhere and mental illness has to be treated..but if an unstable person finds guns in his own house (like this is the case), maybe is easier to go on a murder rampage.

Date: 2012-12-14 09:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] leelust.livejournal.com
You know, owing a gun is a right if the law says so but i think you have to pass as many tests needed as possible to convince people you're sane enough to have that fucking right. Giving guns to crazy unstable people isn't a right it's a crime.

I can tell you how it works here.

I can't go into a shop and buy a gun (whatever it is). I need to go to the police station and fill a form to ask a permission to own a gun. Then I have to pass medical and mental tests.

If I am able, I am asked why I need to have a gun. If the reason is considered by the law, they can issue the permission.

I can't buy all the guns I want though. And if I have the permission to own them, but not to carry them around, I can't go around with them.

Do people get shot here? Yes. Criminals do have guns.
Normal people who own guns sometimes shot for self defense, sometimes because they go crazy...but they are few, so maybe of all the people who go crazy, just few own a gun and most likely they can't go into a school and shooting 30 people...maybe they take a knife and kill their wife/husband or whoever is with them in that moment...but they don't plan a murder rampage.

So yeah...gun control laws kinda work.

Oh btw I can't own a rifle like the one that guy used...it's not legal.

I think in Europe works pretty much the same in every Country...of course you can find guns at the black market, but that one is another story.

Date: 2012-12-14 10:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] leelust.livejournal.com
It's similar here and yet all criminals have guns (illegal though) and many people have traumatic guns that aren't consider a real weapon and yet you may kill using them :/ also almost all not Russian tribes from the south of the counry have customs about guns and use them all the time even when they come to Moscow! It's craziness here.
I'm all for gun control and i think (at least here in my country) we need to make new laws preventing criminals from having and using guns.

Date: 2012-12-14 11:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x5vale.livejournal.com
Criminals will always find guns at the black market or via illegal traffic, but govs should not stop fighting it.

It's finding a gun in a shop that makes everything easier..otherwise why those things happen in the US only (considering the so called west civilized world)...the only resounding case I can remember of in Europe in the last few years is the Utoya one...

In Winnenden (Germany), Tim Kretschmer killed 16 people, 9 of them children; in Erfurt (Germany), Robert Steinhäuser killed 16 people. In 2007, Pekka-Eric Auvinen killed 8 people in a school in Finland. One year later in the finish town of Kauhajoki, Matti Juhani Saari killed 10 people in a school. In China a crazy man went into a school and killed 22 children with a knife. Here in Spain, a mentally ill doctor killed 6 patients with a knife in the hospital were she worked.
When crazy people want to kill, they do.

I agree.

But I have my own opinion about how this thing work and because I think it's peculiar of the American culture.

31 mass murder since Columbine only in the US versus 14 in the rest of the world.. Guns law controld or lack of it, mental illness, violent culture, freedom, no education...everything comes into play when something like that happens. It's never just one thing and it's too easy to say that people who do it are all crazy, because often, they aren't.

Anders Brevik is not crazy. He is a fanatic but not crazy.

Don't tell me that guns control laws don't help and don't work, because they do work pretty much everywhere.

Not really see Chicago as the murder capital of the world, most of these mass murders take places where guns are either banned or illegal.

The United States as the 2nd amendment which allows the right to carry, many states that have strict gun control or bans have higher crime rates. See Chicago again!

However; I don't blame the weapon I blame the mentally ill young man that did this. What we need in the USA is more mental facilities to care for the mentally ill, why we don't care for our own is an understatement...

Of course it's basically his fault (and yes of a system that doesn't cure people with mental illness) but from what I heard on the news, he bought the weapons legally.

Anyway this is not even my point...I'm just an emotional mess right now.

I know we disagree on this stuff, I just think weapons should not be a "right" for anyone. Of course just my two cents on it.

This is incredibly tragic. I just can't believe it or fathom why anyone would ever do that! Obviously they are not in their right mind...but kids?! Random kids...I don't get it. Not that I understand killing your parents either, I have no idea what their family dynamics were but at least he knew them. He could have a "reason" (at least in his mind) to kill them, but RANDOM CHILDREN?! So close to Christmas. Just wrong and so so sad. :(

I don't even know how to express how this really upsets me, there aren't even words to express this senseless act of evil, that's what my step mom called it. I don't know much about what happened except I know the shooter was twenty years old and after killing all these people, children included; they turned the gun on themselves.

I just cannot understand why someone commit such an senseless act or even why.

Even writing this just really upsets me more..

I don't have any children but still children are the most precious gift in the world and I really just don't understand why someone would end a child's life just like that when they had their entire lives ahead of them.

Already vented on twitter, so you know my feelings on this. The gun laws you describe in Italy and Australia and probably all of Europe in general is the way it should be, IMNSHO. No state or city in the US has gun control like that, I don't care who claims where they live has gun laws. The NRA greases palms to make sure loopholes abound, so the "gun laws" that are in place are a joke for the loopholes.

The first thing every politician must do is agree to walk away from the gun lobbyists. Period. Stop taking their blood money, and then start moving forward. If this isn't as bad as it has to get for something to change, then I don't know what it will take.
